Exclusive: Dundee United senior man agrees to join Blackburn Rovers

Dundee United head of recruitment Michael Cairney is set to join Blackburn Rovers in a senior role, sources have told Football Insider.
The 31-year-old has accepted a recruitment position at Ewood Park and will play a key part in their ambitious plans for the future.
Blackburn are currently ninth in the Championship but are putting long-term plans in place as they target promotion to the Premier League in the coming years.
Dundee United confirmed on 25 March that Cairney would leave Tannadice Park in the coming months after accepting “a senior role with an EFL Championship club”.
The SPFL outfit have already begun working to bring in a replacement, who will work alongside Cairney until his departure at the end of the season.

Cairney had been in his role at Dundee United for less than a year, and previously had spells with FC Twente, Barnet and Doncaster Rovers.
He also held a role with London-based investment firm Sport Republic, who own 80% of Southampton, where he was able to build a strong network of contacts across Europe.
Speaking to club media, he explained to fans that the Blackburn job represents “an exciting challenge” and “the right step” at this stage of his career.
The Championship outfit are looking to head in a new direction with their recruitment to strengthen Valerien Ismael’s squad after a difficult spell in recent years.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, plans are already being put in place at Ewood Park to strengthen their squad and build for the future.
Football Insider revealed on 25 March that Blackburn want to sign Kilmarnock sensation Bobby Wales, who is out of contract at Rugby Park this summer.
The 19-year-old has impressed for Kilmarnock this season with five goals and three assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.
West Brom also also eyeing a move for Wales, while Blackburn are seeking a long-term option to fill their centre-forward role after struggling for a consistent source of goals this term.
