TBR Football exclusively understands that Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel does have some reservations about joining Chelsea this month.

Bayern and Chelsea are currently discussing a deal that would effectively see Christopher Nkunku and Tel swap places.

Chelsea are ready to sell Nkunku, a forward who hasn't been able to break into Enzo Maresca's strongest eleven more often than not.

Nkunku was concerned with his minutes a few months ago, a situation that hasn't necessarily improved.

Now, Chelsea are keen to bring Tel to Stamford Bridge with Nkunku heading back to the Bundesliga.

Mathys Tel has reservations about joining Chelsea from Bayern Munich

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Baileyunderstands that Tel would have some concerns about joining Maresca's side this month.

The 19-year-old likes the idea of moving to London, but Chelsea's squad situation is a worry to the France under-21 international.

Tel would ideally like to stay at Bayern but the striker has been told that he is not currently in Vincent Kompany's plans, and should Nkunku arrive then he will see even less game time.

So far this season, Tel has played 351 minutes across 12 appearances in all competitions, yet to grab his first goal for the campaign.

Tel would be willing to join Chelsea, but he would want some guarantees regarding his opportunities at Stamford Bridge.

As of now, all options are open in terms of Tel potentially trading places with Nkunku.

A situation could still transpire in which Nkunku could join Bayern and Tel stays too, even if that wouldn't be ideal for the young forward.

Chelsea seeking permanent exit for Christopher Nkunku

Chelsea ultimately want a permanent deal for Nkunku this month, and at worst they would accept a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

In terms of Nkunku's own opportunities this season, the forward has played 28 games and scored 13 goals, an excellent record at face value.

However, the France international has only been afforded three starts in the Premier League, playing just 390 minutes in total.

The former RB Leipzig striker, who has a record of 47 goals and 43 assists in 119 appearances in the Bundesliga, has mainly been restricted to second-string cup opportunities under Maresca.

Of course, Nkunku isn't the only player who could depart west London this month.

Ben Chilwell is pushing to leave Chelsea, hoping that he will find a new opportunity before the end of January.
