Liverpool have not needed to focus on bolstering the left-back department for years thanks to Andy Robertson.

The Scotland international – an £8m signing from Hull City back in July 2017 – has arguably been the best in his position for around six years now, scoring 11 goals while providing 65 assists in 304 appearances for Liverpool.

Robertson – who Galatasaray want to sign – has helped Liverpool win the following trophies.

However – as Andy Robertson nears his 31st birthday – TBR Football understand Liverpool are already making checks to find an heir to the Scot’s throne at Anfield.

Liverpool exploring Miguel Gutierrez deal with Arsenal also interested

TBR Football have now been told that Liverpool are closely monitoring Miguel Gutierrez.

The Girona No.3 was sold by Real Madrid back in August 2022, and has since blossomed into one of the best defenders in Spain, helping his side qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time ever last season.

Sources inform TBR Football that Real Madrid are considering a move to trigger their €8m (£6.7m) buyback clause for Gutierrez, which becomes active in the summer of 2025 – although the Spanish giants may forgo their option due to the immense competition in that position.

Carlo Ancelotti already has Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia to choose from at left-back, while TBR Football understand that Real Madrid also want to sign Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich.

Therefore, Gutierrez – who has a €35m (£29.2m) release clause for clubs not named Real Madrid – could end up moving to the Premier League, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United taking a good look.

Bayern Munich are also keen on the 23-year-old.

Liverpool may have their work cut out to sign the Spaniard – however – as Fabrizio Romano believes Gutierrez is happy to wait for Real Madrid.

Manchester City also an option to sign Gutierrez

TBR Football are also aware that Manchester City could sign Gutierrez, given the fact Girona are part of the City Football Group.

Pep Guardiola has already taken advantage of this connection by signing Savinho to replace Riyad Mahrez on the right, so the Citizens could trump Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United thanks to their relationship with Girona.

Ultimately, it all comes down to what Real Madrid decide to do, as Los Blancos hold that aforementioned £6.7m buyback clause – which they may even decide to trigger before aiming to sell Gutierrez for profit.
