Man United have begun working on a deal to sign a new long-term goalkeeper this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that City’s transfer team have been making moves to identify a potential replacement for their current options.

Ederson, 31, and Stefan Ortega, 32, are no longer considered long-term choices, while both goalkeeper’s contracts are set to expire in June 2026.

As a result, both have been linked with moves away from the Etihad this summer as City view this as their last opportunity to raise funds from their sales.

This comes after Football Insider revealed last month that Ederson could quit Man City when the transfer window opens amid interest from Saudi Pro League sides.

Sources say the club will prioritise the addition of a younger option who can make the goalkeeping position his own for the foreseeable future.

Man City eye new goalkeeper signing after Ederson exit news

Ederson remains Guardiola’s number-one goalkeeper as things stand, but he has been subject to non-stop speculation about his long-term future at the Etihad.

Saudi Pro League expert Paul Robinson told Football Insider in February that Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad have all entered the race to sign the Brazilian.

Now, City have turned their attentions towards potential replacements as Ortega is unlikely to be viewed as the automatic replacement in goal.

Football Insider revealed last July that City were prepared to sign a new goalkeeper if Ederson made the heavily-rumoured move to Saudi Arabia.

Preparations for the deal have been ongoing behind the scenes since then, and there is a growing expectation at the Etihad that a move will be made this summer.

Pep Guardiola identifies number-one Kevin de Bruyne replacement

On top of their ambitions to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, Man City have also begun the process of replacing Kevin de Bruyne.

Football Insider revealed on 19 April that Florian Wirtz is the number-one target at the Etihad thanks to his performances for Bayer Leverkusen and Germany.

Guardiola views Wirtz as the "dream" signing, but sources say Bayern are the current front-runners and a deal could prove difficult for City to pull off.

This comes after former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football InsiderInter Miami are pushing to sign De Bruyne when he becomes available.
