Jose Mourinho, Steven Gerrard and Lee Carsley are on Leeds United’s shortlist as the club plot a shock manager change, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that there is a possibility Leeds’s owners could be tempted to make a change ahead of their return to the Premier League.

A shortlist has been drawn up behind the scenes, with a number of options considered should they decide to swoop for a new boss this summer.

However, speculation about Farke’s future is currently considered unlikely to result in his sacking and he is expected to lead his side out in the Premier League.

This comes after former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Farke will be the Leeds manager next season and is set to be backed by the board.

Jose Mourinho, Steven Gerrard, Lee Carlsey on Leeds’ shortlist

Mourinho’s name has been circulated in connection with a number of managerial roles in the past year, including the likes of Newcastle, Everton and Rangers.

The legendary boss is seen as a “box-office” target for the Elland Road club, and has never hidden his desire to return to English football.

Gerrard, meanwhile, has been out of work since leaving Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq in January and is now searching for a new opportunity.

Lastly, Carlsey’s spell as England interim manager has placed him on the radar of a number of English sides and he remains very highly-rated within the game.

As things stand, though, Leeds are leaning towards sticking with Farke and any talk about potential managerial appointments is still in the early stages.

Daniel Farke eyes move to sign West Ham star

Alongside the potential addition of a new manager to replace Farke, Leeds are also looking to bolster their playing squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Football Insider revealed on 25 April that Leeds want to sign West Ham’s Tomas Soucek and could reach an agreement for as little as £10million.

Soucek, 30, is seen as the "ideal" option to strengthen their squad and could be allowed to leave West Ham after dropping out of Graham Potter's starting XI.

This comes after former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Leeds will back Farke by signing Premier League-level talent this summer.
