QPR are in advanced talks to sign Aberdeen sensation Timothy Akindileni, sources have told Football Insider.

The defender, 17, has already been on the bench for the Scottish Premiership club’s first team.

Akindileni has yet to sign a professional contract at Pittodrie and could be available for minimal cross border training compensation.

QPR are now closing in on a deal as negotiations with the teenager and his club advance.

He only joined Aberdeen in September 2023 after a successful trial period and due to his short time with the Dons, the defender will not command a big compensation fee.

Football Insider first revealed QPR’s interest in Akindileni earlier this month (14 January) and the London club are now pressing ahead with a deal.

The centre-back has played in the UEFA Youth League for Aberdeen’s youth side this term and has also turned out in the Challenge Cup.

Akindileni stands at 6 foot 4 inches and is a left-footed defender who is a boyhood fan of the Dons, but is closing in on a Pittodrie exit this month.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen sit fourth in the Scottish Premiership after a barren run of recent form extinguished their hopes of a top-two finish.

Jimmy Thelin’s side have not won in the league since 9 November.
