Sheffield United have firmed up their interest in Stoke City striker Tom Cannon with a formal £7m bid, sources have told Football Insider.
Sunderland are also interested in Cannon, who is currently on loan from Leicester City.
The 22-year-old has been a regular starter at Stoke, making 25 appearances this season and scoring 11 goals.
The Potters won the race for Cannon last summer, with multiple EFL clubs, including Hull City and Norwich, expressing interest. Chris Wilder's side showed interest back then, but a move never materialised.
Sheffield United look to sign Tom Cannon to bolster attacking options
Sheffield United are currently sitting third in the Championship and are pushing for promotion to the Premier League.
However, their league form has recently hit a rough patch, with only one win in their last four matches. They are just two points behind leaders Leeds United and were recently knocked out by Cardiff City in the FA Cup.
Cannon would provide a much-needed boost to their attacking options, alongside the likes of Ryan Oné and Rhian Brewster.
However, for a deal to take place, his current loan spell from Leicester would necessarily need to be cut short.
The Foxes were expected to face Profit and Sustainability Rules issues but have escaped sanction along with the rest of the Premier League clubs, but a £7m permanent deal could still be attractive for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Foxes.
The Blades’ hierarchy are backing Wilder in this transfer window, with the club also in advanced talks for another Leicester player in Hamza Choudhury.
In other news, Sheffield goalkeeper Adam Davies was lucky in an incident against Cardiff.
