Exclusive: Tottenham could accept £50m bid for defender

Tottenham star Cristian Romero could be prised away from the club with a bid of just £50million this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Atletico Madrid are the latest top side to be linked with a potential swoop for the 26-year-old centre-back.
Romero is believed to be keen to play regular Champions League football and fight for trophies elsewhere if Tottenham are unable to deliver those opportunities.
The World Cup winner has missed most of the 2024-25 campaign through injury and has publicly hit out at the club’s medical staff.

He has recently returned to action with club and country and has worn the captain’s armband for Spurs in recent games against Bournemouth and Fulham.
Romero was valued highly by Tottenham in recent windows but his below-par form and injury concerns could mean they accept a cut-price fee this summer.

A potential Atletico Madrid switch would link the Argentine up with countryman Diego Simeone and international teammates like Rodrigo De Paul, Julian Alvarez, Angel Correa and Nahuel Molina.
Tottenham paid around £42million to Atalanta to land Romero in 2022 after an initial loan with the club.
His contract with Spurs is set to run until June 2027.
Tottenham weigh up overseas appointment
Football Insider revealed on Monday (31 March) that Tottenham are scouring the overseas market for their next manager.
Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola, Fulham boss Marco Silva and Brentford manager Thomas Frank have all been linked and they will be considered – but Spurs chiefs will cast a wide net.
Ange Postecoglou is currently in the Spurs dugout but is facing sack scrutiny after a dismal 2024-25 campaign which has left the club sitting 14th in the Premier League.
