Exclusive: Walsall respond to two offers from Wycombe Wanderers for Jamie Jellis

Wycombe Wanderers have had two bids for Walsall midfielder Jamie Jellis rejected, sources have told Football Insider.

Jellis has rejected the offer of a new contract from Walsall, but the club are adamant the attacking midfielder is not for sale in this window.

The fact both the player and club have now rejected Wycombe's appeals makes a deal unlikely during the January transfer window, but the Chairboys do remain interested.

Wycombe are offering Jellis the opportunity to move up a division to League One, but that is something Walsall are in a position to do as well at the end of the season.

Mat Sadler is keen not to weaken his team during the January transfer window given they are currently top of League Two, and Jellis has been a key factor in that by scoring four goals in 22 appearances.

However, Wycombe are also in the midst of a promotion campaign as they are second in League One and just two points behind Birmingham City.

Jellis is out of contract at Walsall in the summer, but the club do have an option year that they can exercise should they wish to extend his deal.

Wycombe are keen to add to their squad this month to enhance their chances of gaining promotion at the end of the season.

However, much like Walsall they are trying to keep hold of their best players at the same time among growing interest.

Football Insider revealed that Wycombe have rejected two offers for Joe Low and more bids are expected this month.

The focus for the Chairboys remains strengthening the squad, but Walsall's refusal to let Jellis leave could lead to them needing to try other alternatives.

However, Wycombe could be set to undergo a significant change this month as Matt Bloomfield is expected to join Luton Town in the immediate future.

Football Insider revealed the current Wycombe boss is in advanced talks with the former Premier League side, which could see the Chairboys needing a new manager.
