Exclusive: What Newcastle United have now told Jose Mourinho about Lloyd Kelly after bid made

TBR Football understands that Newcastle have no intention of selling Lloyd Kelly this month and have rejected an offer from Fenerbahce.

Kelly hasn’t played a lot of football this season for Eddie Howe’s side having featured in just 593 minutes of action across all competitions.

The Magpies are keen to keep him as part of their squad at least until the end of the season to avoid leaving themselves short if one of their other defenders were to get injured.

Newcastle reject Lloyd Kelly bid from Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce made an offer for Lloyd Kelly earlier this week which was immediately dismissed by Newcastle United, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

TBR Football is told that Howe is a huge fan of Kelly and would not entertain him leaving the club, having only landed him in the summer.

Jose Mourinho wants central defensive help and after failing to agree terms with Aston Villa over Diego Carlos, his attention turned to the 26-year-old, but without much luck.

The Turkish club could now return for Carlos, but there is competition for him with their fierce rivals Galatasaray with talks having now opened with Villa regarding a deal.

The Midlands are eager to move Carlos on, so they can bring in their own new defender and Villa have already held talks over Oscar Mingueza and Loic Balde, as confirmed by TBR Football.

Another defender looks set to leave Newcastle

Earlier today, TBR Football revealed that Matt Targett is wanted by Charlotte FC, and there is also interest from European clubs.

The player’s former boss at Aston Villa Dean Smith is currently in charge of the MLS club and is keen to be reunited with the full-back in the States.

Targett is not short of offers as Belgian Pro League team Anderlecht and Bundesliga sides Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz are also showing an interest.
