Wolves currently find themselves bottom of the Premier League after a tough start to the 2024/25 campaign under Gary O’Neil.

The Old Gold have suffered five defeats from six outings so far – conceding 16 goals in these games, more than any other Premier League side.

A difficult start was to be expected after Wolves allowed Max Kilman – who Troy Deeney compares to Rio Ferdinand – and Pedro Neto to leave Molineux for West Ham and Chelsea respectively – although fans surely did not expect it to be this unfruitful.

In fairness, Wolves have played the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool in these six Premier League games, so the fixture list has not been kind.

Nevertheless, TBR Football have been told that those in the boardroom at Wolves are still said to be “concerned” by how Gary O’Neil has started the 2024/25 campaign.

Wolves concerned by Premier League form but have faith in Gary O’Neil

TBR Football understand that Wolves executives are satisfied by the performances on show under O’Neil – but hold concerns about the lack of points generated by these displays.

It is said that Wolves believe they could even be sitting mid-table in the Premier League right now, had a few finer details gone in their favour.

Sources also inform TBR Football that Wolves admire O’Neil’s style of play, and acknowledge that the 41-year-old perhaps was not backed enough in the transfer market, particularly in central defence.

On that note, HITC Football believe free agents James Tomkins and Paul Dummett are being considered by Wolves to add depth in the centre-back department.

As it stands, Wolves are absolutely not contemplating a change in the dugout, but should the side remain winless later in the season, the situation will be revisited.

Molineux chiefs spot on with O’Neil stance

This is the correct call from Wolves.

As aforesaid, the fixture list has been very unkind to O’Neil – who has faced two more tough competitors in Aston Villa and Newcastle along with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

With that in mind, and Wolves still adjusting to the loss of two key men in Neto and Kilman, O’Neil deserves patience from his employers as he attempts to figure out the best way forward.
