A turbulent summer transfer window on Tyneside has not deterred Newcastle United from making a solid start to the season.

The result on the weekend was underwhelming with Fulham full value for their three points at Craven Cottage.

But Newcastle have shown a lot of resilience in taking 10 points despite their performances not quite being at their usual high level.

However, the summer transfer window has seen some issues trickle into the 2024/25 campaign with tension between Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell at Newcastle.

One of the issues has surrounded Anthony Gordon who was subject of real interest from Liverpool over the summer window.

TBR Football understands that Newcastle are confident that Gordon will put pen to paper on a new deal.

When Anthony Gordon is expected to sign new contract at Newcastle

TBR sources are suggesting Gordon is expected to agree to his new contract before the next international window.

The summer provided those on Tyneside with a lot of uncertainty surrounding the future of Gordon following the interest from Liverpool.

With the prospect of a return to Merseyside on the cards, it was apparent Gordon had his head turned by the Reds after a seriously impressive 2023/24 campaign.

Newcastle are desperate to keep Gordon at St James’ with sources close to the club believing they are close to an agreement and have told TBR the plan has always been to tie him down to a new deal before January.

Alexander Isak also in line for new contract at Newcastle

It is not just Gordon who Newcastle are looking to tie down on Tyneside with Alexander Isak also on the Toon’s radar.

The summer window saw Newcastle left sweating over the future of some of their top players due to the PSR deadline.

And that has the Magpies hoping to tie down their Swedish striker to a new deal to avoid any scares further down the lines.

Newcastle are anxious to tie down Gordon and team-mate Isak to new deals, having already secured Bruno Guimaraes to new terms earlier this year – although they did have to include a release clause to persuade the Brazilian to sign, which is almost certain to be included in deals for Gordon and Isak.
