Expert: Bamford keen to complete Leeds move in January

Leeds United star Patrick Bamford is attracting interest from a number of Championship clubs ahead of the January transfer window.
This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Bamford’s time at Leeds has come to an end, placing clubs on red alert.
Football Insider revealed on 21 December that the 31-year-old is expected to leave Elland Road at the end of the season, but his wages could prevent a January exit.
However, Brown has explained that the striker may be willing to take a pay cut in order to move to a club where he will be more of a regular feature in the starting XI.
Bamford has fallen out of favour under Daniel Farke and has yet to start a single league game this season, playing 102 minutes across eight substitute appearances.
As a result, rather than waiting until the end of the season for a move, he is said to be interested in cutting ties with Leeds to join another Championship outfit in January.
Brown suggested that numerous clubs are lining up to bring him in given his experience and know-how at this level, but he will have to accept a step down.
Patrick Bamford to quit Leeds United in January
Football Insider exclusively revealed in October that Bamford is planning to leave Leeds after growing frustrated with his game time under Farke.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after spending over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that neither Leeds nor Bamford view his long-term future at Elland Road.
“I’m expecting him to leave Leeds, yes,” he told Football Insider.
“It could happen at the end of the season, but from what I hear, he’d be keen to make the move in January so that he can get back to playing regular football.
“That might mean taking a pay cut, but he wants to play.
“I know a few Championship clubs have been interested, and that’s the sort of club he’ll have to be looking at because he’s not going back to the Premier League.
“That’s why he’s not part of Leeds’ plans for the future because they’re looking to get promoted.
“There isn’t an abundance of strikers available, especially not in January, so the opportunity to sign a player with his experience has placed clubs on alert.“
