Expert: Chelsea have already made Trevoh Chalobah transfer decision

Chelsea are keeping their options open as they continue to weigh up whether to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Blues already have an idea about what they want to do.
This comes after the 25-year-old was left out of Crystal Palace’s squad to face Stockport in the FA Cup, as Oliver Glasner confirmed it was a “contractual issue”.
Had Chalobah featured in the third-round clash, he would have been cup tied and ineligible to feature for the Blues in the competition should they choose to recall him.
Injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, as well as uncertainty over the future of Axel Disasi, have forced Enzo Maresca to consider his options at the back.
They have been heavily linked with a move to re-sign Palace’s Marc Guehi, but are also weighing up Chalobah’s return to bolster their defensive numbers.
Now, Brown has suggested that the decision not to allow him to feature for the Eagles in the FA Cup hints at Chelsea having already made their minds up.
Chelsea will make Trevoh Chalobah recall decision ‘soon’
Following Palace’s clash with Stockport, Glasner explained: “I know he wants to stay, and we want him to stay, but there is still 19 games to go in the transfer window.”
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Chelsea will have to make their final decision on whether to recall Chalobah “soon”.
“It looks like they’re keeping their options open,” he told Football Insider.
“If Chelsea didn’t let him play in the cup, as seems to be the case, it would suggest they’ve already decided that they are considering him as an option.
“I would’ve expected them to use what they’ve currently got because even with their injuries they still have some good options.
“That’s why they allowed Chalobah to go on loan in the first place, so it seems a strange step to bring him back after just six months.
“You have to question their recruitment in that case, because they’ve spent a lot of money on defenders who they’re now deciding aren’t good enough.
“Whether they decide to recall Chalobah or not, it’s definitely a decision they’ll have to make soon because all of the uncertainty isn’t good for anyone.”
