Chelsea are not ruling out the idea that Moises Caicedo could leave the club this summer amid interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Blues will entertain offers north of £100million.
While the 23-year-old remains part of Enzo Maresca’s plans, there is a feeling his sale would allow them to strengthen other areas of the squad.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 11 April that Chelsea will back Maresca this summer despite growing sack pressure at Stamford Bridge.
Caicedo is not expected to be at the top of their list of possible sales, but if Saudi Pro League sides are willing to pay over £100million for him, the offer will be taken seriously.
Chelsea respond to Saudi Pro League interest in Moises Caicedo
Caicedo’s £115million move to Chelsea from Brighton in 2023 remains the current British transfer record in a sign of the Blues’ determination to land key targets.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that the midfielder has failed to live up to his price tag and could now be allowed to leave.
“For whatever reason, he hasn’t lived up to the price tag,” he told Football Insider.
“I find that surprising because, aside from the fee, I think he’s a very good player and I understood why Chelsea were so keen to sign him.
“The money side of it didn’t seem to matter at the time, they were spending big on everybody.
“Now, though, the financial situation is starting to play a part in their decisions.
“I don’t think Caicedo will be at the top of their list of players to sell, but I also don’t think they’re going to rule out his exit.
“If they receive an offer from Saudi Arabia which is around the price they paid for him, so probably about £100million, it’s something they’ll take very seriously.
“That money would then be invested elsewhere in the squad because they still need improvements.”
Kevin de Bruyne update emerges at Stamford Bridge
Speculation about Caicedo’s future at Stamford Bridge is set to continue, but the Blues have also turned their attentions towards potential big-name sigings.
Football Insider revealed on 21 April that Chelsea are interested in signing Kevin de Bruyne as the midfielder edges closer to his departure from Man City.
However, he will have to take a significant pay cut to remain in the Premier League despite refusing to rule out the potential of a move to an English side.
Instead, a move to the Saudi Pro League or Major League Soccer is considered more likely after Brown told Football InsiderInter Miami want to sign De Bruyne.
