Chelsea are asking questions of Enzo Maresca amid growing pressure from the fans despite their recent upturn in form.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the board have taken note of the noise from the stands.

However, the boss is unlikely to be dismissed as things stand and will instead be backed to improve his squad as they believe they can build on what he’s got.

Football Insider revealed on 11 April that Chelsea are unlikely to sack Maresca as they plan to establish some stability after a turbulent couple of years.

The boss’ decision to leave Leicester and join Chelsea at the start of the season has also raised questions as the Foxes’ supporters had also begun to turn against him.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed Maresca has the backing of the Chelsea board despite growing calls from the stands for his dismissal.

Enzo Maresca faces Chelsea sack pressure

Brown told Football Insider in February that Maresca has raised red flags at Chelsea and their trigger-happy owners could be temped to make a decision.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience working closely with top-level managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson for over a decade at Man United, insisted that questions will now be asked of the manager’s position.

Maresca has a good reputation after what he did with Leicester,” he told Football Insider.

“But it was a concern to me that he couldn’t seem to get out of there quick enough.

“Those fans weren’t entirely happy with him by the end, even though they got promoted, and I think he could see the writing was on the wall.

“Now he’s gone to Chelsea, he has a lot of big names and egos and I’m not sure how well he’s handled it.

“When the fans turn on the manager, it’s never a good sign and it’s something the board will have taken note of, I’m sure.

“They’ve got the core of what could be a very good squad with a little bit of work and improvement.

“I expect he will be backed in the summer because everything you hear from Chelsea is that the board are going to stick by him.

“But as I said, when the fans start to turn, it’s never a good sign and questions will be asked.”

Christopher Nkunku update emerges at Stamford Bridge

One player who has suffered under Maresca’s management is Christopher Nkunku, and speculation is growing about his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

Brown told Football Insider on 18 April that Nkunku will “definitely” be allowed to leave Chelsea as he is no longer a part of the boss’ long-term plans.

The Blues are preparing to accept offers for the forward with a return to the Bundesliga currently considered his most likely route away from West London.

Football Insider revealed in November that Nkunku could push for an exit from Chelsea as a result of limited first-team opportunities this season.
