Byran Mbeumo would provide Mikel Arteta with two aspects of play Arsenal currently lack if they seal a move for the Brentford forward this summer.

That's according to former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains well-connected in the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider Mbeumo would be an ideal fit for Arsenal.

Mbeumo’s form for the Bees this season, with 15 goals and five assists as Thomas Frank’s side cling onto their hopes of European football, has already drawn plenty of attention from the likes of Newcastle.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have struggled to keep pace with Liverpool at the top end of the table and currently trail them by 12 points in the title race, scoring 16 less goals despite having a better defensive record.

Arteta is therefore set to be in the market for an out-and-out finisher this summer, and although Mbeumo plays off the right flank for Brentford, his status as the Premier League’s fifth-highest scorer is no fluke.

Bryan Mbeumo to be Arsenal transfer asset

Football Insider reported on 20 March that not only are Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool keeping tabs on Mbeumo ahead of the summer, the Gunners are also fans of his Brentford team-mate Yoane Wissa.

Wissa’s position as Brentford’s centre-forward arguably makes him a better fit for Arteta’s side, who are lacking in this area, but Brown sees Mbeumo as the player the Gunners would be more likely to go for.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, wouldn’t be surprised to see Arsenal launch a pursuit this summer.

“Arsenal want to be maintaining their strength, and improving on it”, Brown told Football Insider.

“Bryan Mbeumo; if he was an Arsenal player now, he’d be an asset to them, because he can do what he can do, he scores goals and he runs the flanks for them.

He’s not like a Stanley Matthews type who beats people, he’s not that type of winger, he’s more forceful and penetrative – that might be the way that Arsenal have to go, so that one wouldn’t surprise me.”

Mbeumo transfer a no-brainer for Arsenal to close the gap

Although a successful pursuit of Mbeumo would see him join Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri in Arsenal’s already jam-packed wide ranks, he’d still be a valuable addition.

Mbeumo has played as part of a front two with Wissa during his time at Brentford, and a move across London could see him partner Gabriel Jesus or Kai Havertz to similarly devastating effect at the Emirates.

Though he’d be highly unlikely to displace Saka in his preferred right-wing role, Mbeumo can still find a place in the middle to provide the “forceful” and “penetrative” final-third presence Arsenal seem to lack.

Goals are what’s needed for Arteta to finally bridge the gap which still lingers between Arsenal and the Premier League title, and a player of Mbeumo’s quality could play a huge part in completing the jigsaw.
