Expert predicts Leeds-Gnonto transfer U-turn

Leeds United are open letting Wilfried Gnonto leave Elland Road “for the right price” in the January transfer window.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the club would not stand in his way should an acceptable offer arrive.
This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 11 January that the 21-year-old is a target for multiple Saudi Arabian clubs this month.
Despite this, it was previously suggested that his importance to Daniel Farke’s team meant Leeds would be reluctant to sell in the middle of the season.
Gnonto has been a key part of Farke’s side so far this season, having scored four goals and provided five assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.
Leeds are currently top of the Championship table after 26 games, with their ambitions to gain promotion back to the top tier of English football currently on track.
Now, however, Brown has insisted that a significant offer could tempt Leeds to sell and reinvest the money to improve their squad for the second half of the season.

Brown also raised concerns about the winger’s consistency and whether he could be relied upon as a major part of their squad in the Premier League.
The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the winger needs to improve if he wants to be a top-tier player.
“Leeds have a lot of really good Championship players,” he told Football Insider.
“But I have concerns about how much of them could be Premier League players.
“I think Gnonto fits into that group, he can look electrifying for 20 minutes, but I see him fading in games, and he’s always been that sort of player.
“I don’t think you can build your team around a player like that because there’s too much inconsistency.
“He’s got the ability, of course, but it’s about doing it consistently, especially if they’re going to rely on him in the Premier League.
“So for Leeds I think if they get a significant offer for his services, they could let him go.
“It would have to be a price that worked for the club, they won’t let him go for nothing, but being able to reinvest into their squad might put them in a stronger position.”
