Man City could be dealt a significant blow in their pursuit of Eduardo Camavinga if Carlo Ancelotti decides to leave Real Madrid.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the boss could be replaced at the end of the season.

As a result, Brown has suggested Camavinga could be handed a more prominent role in the side under a new coach which could change his mind about leaving.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 18 March that Camavinga is open to joining Man City amid concerns about his place in the Madrid squad.

The 22-year-old has started just 16 of his 27 appearances so far this season when fit, while injury issues have also derailed his bid for a regular starting place.

He is also said to be keen to work under Pep Guardiola at City, where he would be a more prominent part of their plans as they eye a potential midfield reshuffle.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the manager’s future could have a direct impact on Camavinga’s departure.

I don’t think things are totally smooth at Real Madrid,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve had their problems with injuries and other things then they’ve got the likes of Modric who are ageing, but it’s the off-field stuff that gets me.

Vinicius Junior gets the hump because he didn’t win the Balon d’Or and none of them go to the ceremony – that speaks volumes about their attitude to me.

“There have been whispers that Carlo Ancelotti might leave at the end of the season.

“All of a sudden, some players on the fringes might think they have a chance.

“So Camavinga isn’t getting as much first-team football as he wants at the moment, but if they get a new manager in, that might change.

“That would be a significant blow as far as a move to Man City goes.

“We know they’re keen on signing him, but if he’s given his chance at Madrid I think he’d be happy to stay.

“I think it will depend on what happens with the manager’s future.”

Jack Grealish could leave after Pep Guardiola decision

Man City are putting plans in place for a busy transfer window at the Etihad, as they aim to build upon their big-spending January window.

Alongside a number of transfer targets, including Camavinga, there is a growing belief that a number of players will have to make way to free up space in the squad.

Brown told Football Insider on 18 March that Man City could let Jack Grealish leave when the window opens as he is no longer an important part of Guardiola’s side.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Guardiola will decide Grealish's Man City future ahead of a potential squad overhaul.
