Expert: Update on Antoine Semenyo to Newcastle

Newcastle United remain interested in a move to sign Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January transfer window.
This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Magpies have been keeping a close eye on his performances this season.
The 24-year-old scored in Bournemouth’s stunning 3-0 win against Man United on Sunday (22 December) and continues to impress the watching clubs.
His second-half strike at Old Trafford took his Premier League tally to five goals and one assist from 16 games, playing a key role in Bournemouth’s march to fifth place.
However, the Magpies are still undecided about whether to make a move for him in January as they continue to weigh up their potential options.
Eddie Howe’s side are keen to strengthen their right-wing position as a priority in January, but are said to have reservations about whether Semenyo would be the right option.
Brown, meanwhile, has suggested the forward would be better served by staying at Bournemouth to continue his development and prove he is ready for a step up.
Newcastle weighing up Antoine Semenyo move in January
Football Insider first revealed on 12 October that the Magpies want to sign Semenyo after his impressive start to the season at the Vitality.
Now, Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after spending over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that
“He’s definitely on their list of targets,” he told Football Insider.
“Semenyo has surprised me with how well he’s done so far this season for Bournemouth.
“Newcastle are one of the teams who have been watching him with a potential move in mind.
“But from what I’ve heard, I think it’s unlikely they’ll make a move in January because they’re still weighing up whether he would be the right fit for them.
“I think he’s found his place at Bournemouth with his role in the team, while there are no massive stars and no great pressure on the players.
“That’s an environment which suits him down to the ground, and he suits them too.
“So then you’ve got to be careful that you don’t get too big for your boots and make the move when you’re not ready, because playing for Newcastle comes with higher expectations.
“If I was advising him, I’d say he should stay at Bournemouth to continue to develop as a player.“
In other news, Callum Wilson “will leave Newcastle” next summer.
