Alexis Mac Allister has taken to social media to reflect on the “pain” of the week Liverpool have just endured.

Only a week ago, the treble was firmly in the Reds’ sights, in what had been an unbelievable first season under Arne Slot.

However, a penalty shootout loss to PSG, and a Carabao Cup final loss to Newcastle have dashed those hopes, leaving Liverpool with the consolation prize of likely becoming champions of England.

Whilst a magnificent prize by itself, the “what could have been” nature of football is cruel, and the Reds will now need to pick themselves up to confirm their title of Premier League champions, and avoid becoming the “biggest bottle jobs of all time”, according to Jim White.

Despite losing the final against Newcastle, there was the minute prize of seeing Chiesa play well for Liverpool fans.

The Italian has suffered a miserable start to his career with the Reds, but there will be some hope the former Juventus man can use his goal against the Magpies as a springboard to his time at Anfield.

Dean Huijsen the absolute priority at Liverpool after Virgil van Dijk Bayern Munich talks

Football Insider Verdict

Mick Brown told Football Insider exclusively Bayern Munich have contacted Virgil van Dijk’s agent, regarding a potential free transfer to the Allianz Arena.

The news will be especially concerning to Liverpool fans, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah also out of contract in the summer.

Van Dijk seems the most likely of the three to re-sign with the club, and it would be a mammoth blow for the club if they were unable to keep their club captain.

The potential deal for the Dutch international could spur Liverpool into action in their pursuit of Bournemouth defender, Dean Huijsen.

The talented Spaniard seems like a perfect successor to Van Dijk, given both share a similar style of play on the pitch, but the Cherries’ star is highly sought after, and with a reported £50million release clause, Liverpool will face stiff competition for the 19-year-old this summer.
