Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have been linked with a host of defenders during the January transfer window.

For instance, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey recently confirmed that Tottenham have set their sights on Milan Skriniar and David Hancko.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been linked with Antonee Robinson, while Milos Kerkez is also said to be on the Anfield radar, as is Patrick Dorgu.

However, one player linked with both Tottenham and Liverpool is now reportedly closing in on a move to Premier League rivals Brentford.

Fabrizio Romano has taken to X to say Brentford are now closing in on a move for Fiorentina right-back Michael Kayode.

Romano added that negotiations are at the final stages after Kayode gave the green light to the Bees, with key details now being clarified in club talks.

CaughtOffside have reported that Tottenham and Liverpool have been monitoring Kayode, but they also said he’s in talks with Brentford.

The report added that the Italy Under-21 international is likely to cost around €17million (£14.4million).

Aston Villa have also been linked with Kayode in recent months.

What Kayode could bring to the Premier League

Although the race is not fully over, it looks as though Brentford are set to win ahead of the likes of Spurs and Liverpool, barring a late twist.

At just 20 years of age, Kayode has his whole career ahead of him, and he has all the tools required to become a full-back of the highest level.

Kayode spent time in the Juventus academy before spending time at Gozzano and then joining Fiorentina in 2021.

He has come through the Fiorentina ranks and has made 49 senior appearances to date for the Viola, as well as winning four caps for Italy’s Under-21s.

Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig compared him to Denzel Dumfries and deemed him a “complete full-back”.

His strengths include pace, tackling, physicality, bravery, consistency and determination, added Kulig.

Meanwhile, scouting outlet Breaking the Lines likened Kayode to Kyle Walker last year.

"Most of the time, Kayode's positioning is intelligent, but when he jumps out too quickly, he can get caught in behind,” they wrote.

"Luckily, his top recovery pace and athleticism give him an extra tool up his sleeve to stop counters, similar to City right-back Kyle Walker."
