'Frank Lampard not happy with Brad Collins': 'Massive' Coventry update
Yesterday at 09:30 AM
Frank Lampard won’t be happy with Coventry City goalkeeper Brad Collins after what he did in the 4-1 loss to Portsmouth, Clinton Morrison has said.
Things started well for the Sky Blues as they travelled to Fratton Park on Saturday (21 December) as Norman Bassette put them 1-0 up with just three minutes on the clock.
Lampard though then saw his side pegged back just ten minutes later, when Callum Lang’s half-volley bounced between Collins and the near post to squeeze into the bottom corner thanks to a weak save attempt.
Speaking about that Pompey equaliser on Sky Sports (12:46pm), former Crystal Palace and Birmingham striker Morrison noted how “massively important” it was for the hosts equalise quickly, also saying:
“It’s from Callum Lang but Brad Collins will be disappointed with this. You can see here he does well with the first punch. But when it comes out to Callum Lang on the edge of the box he just has a strike.
“Collins has got to do better at the near post. It just goes under him. It’s poor goalkeeping. Frank Lampard won’t be happy and neither will Collins. Portsmouth are back in it.”
Brad Collins error proved costly for Frank Lampard and Coventry

As Morrison suggested, neither Lampard or Collins are likely to be pleased with what the latter did for this goal.
With the height, pace and angle of the shot in relation to the ‘keeper and post, it is one those connected with Coventry will feel was saveable.
The fact that it was not proved particularly costly for the Sky Blues, with Portsmouth going on to run riot en route to a dominant win.
Had Collins kept this one out, then Pompey may not have had the momentum they needed to go on and claim such an emphatic result here.
Instead all the momentum went to Lang, who went on to score all four as Portsmouth ran out 4-1 winners.
Lampard has been praised for showing a desire to prove himself as a manager by returning to the dugout with Coventry.
Moments like this though may serve as a reminder to the former Chelsea and England man that doing that is unlikely to be an easy task.
Indeed that may only prompt Lampard to demand more funds from the club for next month’s transfer window.
In other news, a Championship rival are in talks to sign a Coventry summer transfer target.
