Frank Lampard was taunted with chants of “sacked in the morning” by Portsmouth fans during his Coventry City side’s defeat at Fratton Park.

Things initially started well for the Sky Blues on Saturday afternoon (21 December) with Norman Bassette putting them in front after just three minutes.

The hosts though would equalise ten minutes later with Callum Lang beating goalkeeper Brad Collins at his near post with a long-range volley.

Coventry somewhat collapsed after that, with Lang netting three more as Portsmouth ran out 4-1 winners.

There have already be some suggestions Lampard will not last long in the Sky Blues’ dugout, sentiment plenty of the home support seemed to share at Fratton Park.

As per BBC Sport, many of those Portsmouth fans took the chance to tease the former Chelsea and England man with chants of “you’re getting sacked in morning” while enjoying the scoreline.

Frank Lampard not under pressure yet but needs to change things soon for Coventry

For the time being it is certainly premature to suggest that Lampard’s job with the Sky Blues is under threat.

Since he took over as Coventry manager he has delivered a return of seven points from five games in charge which while not outstanding, is not disastrous either.

Considering they had endured a tough start to the campaign prior to his appointment as well he will surely be given the chance to improve things, although signs at Pompey were alarming.

Frank Lampard’s side did not have a good afternoon at Fratton Park

With Portsmouth having also struggled early in the season you can’t blame their fans for enjoying such a comprehensive comeback win, and a big name such as Lampard is always going to be a clear target for stick.

Indeed, this result means Coventry are currently 17th in the Championship table, six points from safety but having played a game more than the bottom three.

As a result the former Chelsea and England man will need to deliver better results than this quickly to keep his new side out of trouble and prevent too much pressure from building on him.

In other news, a Championship rival are in talks to sign a Coventry summer transfer target.
