Dedryck Boyata is going through a difficult phase at Club Brugge, a long way from his time at Manchester City and Celtic, according to today's edition of Gazet van Antwerpen.

The Belgium international left his country for the first time when he joined Manchester City's academy from RWDM Brussels in 2006.

He spent nine years at Manchester City before joining Celtic in 2015. During his time at the Etihad, the Citizens sent the 33-year-old out on loan to Bolton Wanderers and FC Twente.

The centre-back made 35 appearances for the Premier League winners' first team and his game time had improved at Celtic.

Boyata spent four years at Celtic Park, where he played 135 matches in all competitions for the Bhoys. He left Celtic at the end of the 2018/19 season and made a switch to Union Berlin, before joining Club Brugge in 2022.

He’s featured 26 times for the Jupiler Pro League side and his displays weren't convincing. Club Brugge wanted to offload the ex-Manchester City and Celtic man in the summer but failed.

GVA claim Boyata has been demoted to Club NXT, which is their reserves, and isn't allowed to use the first-team dressing room. His situation is 'increasingly painful' for Club Brugge as he's one of the top earners at the club.

The Belgian's deal lasts until 2025 and he could look for a way out in January.
