From Spain: Aston Villa now 'very close to reaching agreement' to sign Juan Foyth

Earlier today we covered multiple reports from the Spanish media about Aston Villa’s interest in signing Juan Foyth.
The claims have largely been encouraged by Unai Emery being so open when speaking about his club’s interest in the Villarreal defender.
El Periódico Mediterráneo, the newspaper local to Villarreal and a good source for news on the club, reported in their Monday edition that Aston Villa’s first offer has been knocked back.
They did’t share how much that offer was for, but did make it clear that the Premier League club had contacted Villarreal before they move to speak to the player, wanting to go about the transfer in a respectful way.
AS now report Aston Villa are ‘very close to reaching an agreement’ to sign the 27-year-old. Both clubs are in a rush, and it’s explained once an agreement is reached it will be down to the player to decide.
Villarreal are said to believe they’re already covered if Foyth leaves, with a deal to sign Napoli’s Rafa Marin in the works even before the prospect of the Argentine’s departure arose.
Juan Foyth moved to Tottenham Hotspur in 2017, with Spurs beating PSG in a hard fought fight for the player. Unai Emery was in charge at the Ligue 1 side at the time, and there had been confidence in France that PSG had won the race before Tottenham ultimately beat them to it.
Foyth then moved to Villarreal, initially on loan, in 2020, being one of Emery’s first signings for the Spanish club.
