Fulham’s stance on Tottenham’s potential attempt to prize Marco Silva out of his job at Craven Cottage has emerged after an update on managerial moves this summer.

Ange Postecoglou remains under immense pressure in North London and may well be let go following the culmination of this season.

Spurs are currently sat 14th in the Premier League table and are out of both domestic cups, with the Europa League being their last chance to claim silverware.

Should Daniel Levy decide to replace Postecoglou, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, and Brentford boss Thomas Frank are on a shortlist alongside Silva as targets for the Tottenham job, with Iraola thought to be top of the list.

However, as reported by The Athletic, the pursuit of the Fulham boss could present problems for the Spurs chairman.

Fulham confident in retaining Marco Silva despite Tottenham interest

Silva is seen as the second choice behind Iraola for the Spurs job, having made Fulham a consistent top-half team since taking over.

Whilst the Portuguese boss only has one year left on his deal with the Cottagers, that deal initially included a release clause in excess of £10million so, depending on the current terms in effect, is expected to make him a costly option.

As such, Fulham are said to be “confident” of keeping hold of Silva, who ranks alongside Roy Hodgson as their two best managers of the modern era.

Marco Silva to resist Tottenham pull in favour of bigger move

Football Insider Verdict

Kris Boyd called Silva “next” for a big job, but on current viewing, Tottenham are unlikely to be able to present a strategy that is appealing enough for the former Everton boss.

With Son Heung-Min slowing down in terms of production and Dominic Solanke hardly proving himself to be a worth successor to Harry Kane as yet, Spurs are currently trending downwards, not up.

What’s more, from Silva’s point of view, there is currently no rush to jump ship at the first offer presented.

The Portuguese boss has proven himself to be incredibly adept at fulfilling the long-term aims of a project, having turned Fulham from a Championship club to a European-contender in just three-and-a-half seasons.

Silva’s stock wont fall between now and the end of the season, or even next season, given his achievements so far in West London, leaving him with plenty of time to figure out his next career move.

If there was a manager who could handle the frugality of Daniel Levy at Spurs it likely would be Silva based on his time at Craven Cottage, and he has a track record of making moves that are best for his career rather than his current club’s, but whether he sees Tottenham as that remains to be seen.
