'Go and buy': Paul Merson tells Arsenal to get £44m player signed right now

Arsenal have received so many transfer recommendations from pundits during this January transfer window.
Ian Wright told Arsenal to sign Omar Marmoush, Darren Bent suggested Arsenal should sign Jhon Duran, and now, speaking to Sky Sports Paul Merson has named one player he thinks Arsenal should sign before the deadline.
According to Merson, Matheus Cunha would be a great addition to this Arsenal team from Wolves.
Merson believes that Arsenal don't need to focus on buying a new long-term central striker in January, claiming that the right player may not be available.
However, Merson reckons the £44m man would be a great addition to Mikel Arteta's side.
Arsenal have been linked to Cunha recently, while Nottingham Forest also want Cunha.
Arsenal should sign Matheus Cunha
Merson spoke about what Arsenal should do in this transfer window, and he recommended Cunha as a signing.
Merson has previously urged Arsenal to sign Alexander Isak, and now, he wants the Gunners to go after the Wolves star.
Cunha is valued at £80m, so this would be a very difficult and expensive deal to do.
"You look at buying a centre-forward in January, you're signing someone for five years, not someone for the next six months," Merson said.
"I'd buy Cunha, I'd go and buy Cunha because I see that as an all-round package you know where he can play there for the next five years. They have to wait for the centre-forward, don't rush into that.
"I would go and get Cunha. I think Cunha suits Arsenal, he has that guile about him, good in tight spaces, he can beat players, and when you're at Arsenal you're usually playing against 10 at the back. I do like Cunha."
Matheus Cunha record alongside Arsenal players
Cunha to Arsenal is certainly one to watch in the final weeks of the transfer window.
If Cunha does end up joining Arsenal, he'll be joining a squad where he already knows quite a few players.
Indeed, Cunha has played alongside Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes at various levels with Brazil.
Matheus Cunha record with Gabriel Martinelli | Matheus Cunha record with Gabriel Jesus | Matheus Cunha record with Gabriel Magalhaes | |
Games | 3 | 5 | 5 |
Wins | 2 | 2 | 2 |
Draws | 0 | 2 | 1 |
Losses | 1 | 1 | 2 |
That's not the only Arsenal link Cunha has via his former teammates either.
During his time at RB Leipzig, Cunha played alongside Emile Smith Rowe while he also crossed paths with Omar Rekik during his time at Hertha Berlin.
Cunha may know plenty about life at Arsenal already due to his links to these current and former Arsenal players, so settling into life in north London perhaps wouldn't be too difficult if Cunha made this move.
There's just over a week to go in the transfer window, and Cunha remains one of the best signings Arsenal could potentially make.
