'Go and buy': Paul Merson tells Arsenal to sign £50m star to replace Gabriel Jesus after his injury

Arsenal have to sign a new striker in the winter window.
The Gunners have been in need of a prolific centre-forward since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the club. For one reason or another, they just haven’t been able to get one in.
Now, the necessity has increased significantly after Gabriel Jesus suffered what looks like a serious knee injury and could be out for a long time.
Arsenal have to dive into the market for a new striker, and Paul Merson has suggested two names. One of them is a big target for Manchester City.
Paul Merson tells Arsenal to sign Omar Marmoush
Omar Marmoush has been a popular man over the last month.
The Egyptian has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League after his phenomenal start to the season at Eintracht Frankfurt. He has directly contributed to 31 goals for them already.
TBR Football exclusively revealed that Manchester City are pushing to sign Marmoush in a deal expected to be worth around £50 million.
Pep Guardiola’s side are the clear favourites for his signature at this stage, but Merson has urged Arsenal to hijack City’s move and lure him to the Emirates.
The pundit’s other suggestion to Arsenal is to break the bank for Newcastle United star Alexander Isak.
Merson wrote on Sportskeeda: “It’s a shame Gabriel Jesus got injured but that has now surely got to make Mikel Arteta go and buy a centre-forward.
“They need someone to lead that line and they need him quick. You either break the bank for Alexander Isak or get Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt before Manchester City.
“You look at Isak the other day against Arsenal, he got one chance and he scored. He had hardly touched the ball until that point but he still put it away. When you compare that to Arsenal, their forwards need four or five chances to score.”
Omar Marmoush’s stats compared to Alexander Isak and other Arsenal striker targets
Marmoush has been one of the best players in the Bundesliga this season.
The Egypt international isn’t just scoring a ton of goals, but he’s creating plenty for his teammates as well. That is why he is so badly wanted by Manchester City.
But, how does he compare to Arsenal’s five key striker targets? Let’s have a look!
Arsenal-linked striker | Games | Goals | Assists |
Omar Marmoush | 25 | 19 | 12 |
Alexander Isak | 22 | 15 | 4 |
Viktor Gyokeres | 30 | 32 | 6 |
Benjamin Sesko | 24 | 12 | 3 |
Dusan Vlahovic | 23 | 12 | 2 |
Victor Osimhen | 17 | 13 | 6 |
As the table shows above, only Viktor Gyokeres has scored more goals than Marmoush, while nobody even comes close to the number of assists the Frankfurt star has provided this season.
That is exactly what Arsenal need right now, but whether the Gunners will attempt an audacious hijack to lure Marmoush away from Manchester City remains to be seen.
For what it’s worth, we think any of the names in the table above would have a positive impact at Arsenal if they are signed in this window.
