Cody Gakpo received plenty of reactions from his teammates after sharing a motivated message on social media.

The Dutch forward has enjoyed an impressive season under Arne Slot and was rewarded with a call-up to the Netherlands squad for the international break.

Gakpo has been a key figure for Liverpool, scoring 16 goals in all competitions whilst also providing five assists.

With Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz failing to impress Liverpool fans ,the 25-year-old has stepped up, excelling both on the left wing and as a central striker to provide a consistent goal threat.

However, his time away with the national team ended in disappointment, as the Netherlands played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Spain on 23 March before losing on penalties.

Despite the setback, Gakpo remained positive, sharing a message with fans following the narrow defeat.

Liverpool face injury concerns over Ryan Gravenberch and Alisson during international break

Following the Netherlands’ loss to Spain, Cody Gakpo shared an uplifting message with fans, writing: “Keep your blessings high and embrace the lessons. Proud of the team and everything we accomplished. Grateful for all the support—thank you all for always being there.”

His post drew reactions from several players, including Aston Villa's Ian Maatsen, as well as Liverpool teammates Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

However, Gravenberch's international break was cut short after he was deemed unfit to feature. The midfielder had suffered an injury during the Carabao Cup final loss, and the Netherlands national team decided not to risk him. Some Liverpool fans criticised Slot's squad rotation, believing fatigue played a role in his injury.

Meanwhile, Alisson also raised concerns to Liverpool fans after a head collision during Brazil's match against Colombia. He was sent back to Liverpool as a precaution, but later reassured fans that the injury was not serious.

As for Gakpo, he has missed five matches since February, forcing Liverpool to rely on alternative options in attack—with little success. Fans will be relieved that he avoided any setbacks during the international break.

Liverpool eye Alexander Isak as they plan attacking reinforcements

Despite Gakpo's strong season, Liverpool are looking to sign Alexander Isak in a blockbuster summer move to fill the void up-front.

While Gakpo has played a key role in the attack, the long-term plan may see him continue at left-wing instead of playing as a striker, allowing the club to secure a more traditional number nine.

Isak, who has been a standout performer for Newcastle, fits that profile and could provide the finishing touch to Liverpool's evolving frontline.
