Wrexham and Bristol Rovers will be charged by the FA after a melee between both sets of players at the end of their League One game, according to Keith Hackett.

The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that each side and their individuals could be in trouble over what happened.

It had been Phil Parkinson’s side who had taken the lead in the game at the Memorial Stadium with Elliot Lee opening the scoring inside the first 20 minutes.

The score stayed that way until the 86th minute when Promise Omochere struck to claim an equaliser for the hosts.

That then led to an eventful end to the game, which Hackett believes could cause problems for both Wrexham and Bristol Rovers, with visiting captain James McLean central amid clashes with Clinton Mola and others.

It was after the game that things really started to kick off from a disciplinary perspective, with players from both sides involved in heated arguments on the pitch.

Wrexham duo McClean and Steven Fletcher, as well as the Bristol Rovers pairing of James Wilson and Omochere were among those heavily involved in what happened (BBC Sport).

Phil Parkinson saw his Wrexham side pegged back late on.

Hackett has now suggested that both teams as well as the individuals involved will face sanctions from the FA, as he told Football Insider:

“Both teams will be charged with failing to control their players. This will result in a fine.

“The panel will also look at the behaviour of individual players who could also face sanction.

“The referee will issue a special incident report form.”

Following that result, Wrexham have now drawn their last two games although they remain firmly in contention for a third consecutive promotion.

Bristol Rovers meanwhile may consider that to be an important point as they fight to keep themselves clear of the relegation zone.

In other news, a former West Ham coach is in contention to be the new Bristol Rovers manager.
