England captain Harry Kane has congratulated former manager Gareth Southgate after he received a knighthood in the New Year’s honours list.
The 54-year-old is set to become Sir Gareth Southgate after becoming the first England manager since fellow Knight of the Realm Sir Alf Ramsey to reach the final of a major international tournament.
Southgate spent eight years in charge of England before stepping down in the summer, guiding them to two European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final.
The former defender resigned just two days after England suffered a 2-1 defeat to Spain in their second consecutive Euros final.
Ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel has since been tasked with ending England’s trophy drought, signing a deal that would see him take charge for the 2026 World Cup.
