Tottenham suffered one of their most embarrassing defeats in some time after losing 3-2 against Brighton & Hove Albion despite being 2-0 up at half-time.

The north London side completely fell apart in the second-half at the Amex Stadium as Tottenham became the first Premier League side in history to lose ten games despite going 2-0 up at some point during a match.

With the result leaving Tottenham in ninth place and four points off top-four heading into the October international break, Ange Postecoglou will be starting to feel the pressure once Premier League action returns later this month.

Yet Gary Lineker has now said Tottenham’s form could be down to one player being missing.

Tottenham really starting to ‘miss’ Son after 3-2 Brighton loss

Speaking on the Rest is Football, the former Tottenham striker noted how much Spurs are starting to miss Heung-min Son, who would have been ideal to finish off the chances presented against Brighton that were wasted by Timo Werner.

Son has missed the last three games with the South Korea international becoming a big miss for Tottenham, with Werner catching plenty of heat for his latest performance with Spurs looking toothless at times in the attack.

And for Lineker, Tottenham being without their best player in Son is starting to have an effect on results, with the north London side in no position to lose in the way that they did against Brighton on Sunday night.

Lineker said: "We have to remember as well that Spurs are missing quite possibly their best player, Heung-min Son. He is a big miss to them, isn’t he? I mean, Werner gives them a lot of pace, but his final product is not that of a certain Son."

Tottenham will hope Son is back to face West Ham

Son’s importance to Tottenham cannot be understated, with Archie Gray hailing the Spurs captain as ‘priceless’ with the £22m South Korea star still one of the best attackers in world football.

Yet with the international break now here, Tottenham will hope Son will be fit enough to face West Ham later this October, with that fixture now a must-win game for both London sides with the pressure really on for Postecoglou.

And having Son back will be a huge boost for the Australian manager, with the Tottenham attacker an impossible player for Spurs to replace who will be key in the north London side’s quest to finish in the top-four.
