Liverpool are one of the best operators in the transfer market in world football.

The Reds know how to sniff out a bargain, and they also know how to find the right players for their squad.

It's been a long time since Liverpool signed a player you'd be able to call a flop, and that's because they do so much due diligence on any potential signing, both personally and professionally.

Liverpool don't go for prima donna players, they sign workhorses who will give everything for the team.

Speaking on his podcast, Up Front, Simon Jordan has been discussing Tottenham'sJames Maddison, and he says that the England midfielder is too flash of a player to sign for a team like Liverpool.

Jordan also noted that he couldn't see a team like Arsenal or Manchester City going for the £45m Spurs star.

Simon Jordan couldn't see Liverpool going for James Maddison

Jordan discussed Maddison and his role at Tottenham.

The former Crystal Palace owner spoke highly of Maddison, claiming that he is a great player, but he thinks he's a bit too flash to play for a truly elite club.

Indeed, Jordan says that Maddison wouldn't be a target for teams such as Arsenal, Manchester City or Liverpool.

"Maddison, I think he's a great player, I think he's a great player, but he's a bit flash for cash," Jordan said.

"I think he's a great Tottenham player, but I don't see Liverpool buying Maddison, I wouldn't see Arsenal buying Maddison and I wouldn't see Man City buying Maddison, but I see Spurs buying him. Spurs have always had players with great quality, but we're talking about culture,"

Liverpool were linked with Maddison

It's interesting that Jordan makes this point, because before James Maddison joined Tottenham, he was linked with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.

Ben Jacobs stated that Liverpool wanted Maddison before he joined Tottenham, while Arsenal were keeping tabs on the England midfielder before his move to Spurs.

Of course, Liverpool and Arsenal, historically, don't sign players who don't have the right attitude, and, as Jordan says, Maddison can be perceived to be a bit flash.

In fact, Maddison has even been called a luxury player by Steve Nicol.

"Unfortunately, he doesn't do enough work for me, you see him in batches, what we used to call a luxury player.

"That is for me why he won't end up at a top club. He will be sold, but to where? He can play for most teams on the planet, but I don't think he fits the best teams," Nicol said.

However, sometimes, talent overrides perceptions, and despite some of his perceived flaws, Maddison did enough to attract both Arsenal and Liverpool before he joined Tottenham.
