'He's doing so well': Robbie Savage suggests Chelsea should've signed player Man Utd released

Chelsea have, by and large, been very good this season under Enzo Maresca.
The Blues are flying high in the Premier League's top four right now, and a Champions League return could be on the cards next season.

However, there is one problem in the Chelsea team right now, the goalkeeper.
Robert Sanchez has been criticised for his performances this season, and he was at it again on Sunday as he gave away an unnecessary penalty against Manchester United.
Speaking on BBC 606, Robbie Savage has been discussing Chelsea's goalkeeping situation with a number of fans, and he made an interesting suggestion.
Indeed, Savage said that Chelsea should've signed David De Gea after his Manchester United release, claiming that he's doing so well for Fiorentina right now.
Chelsea should've signed David De Gea
Savage made the claim about De Gea when speaking to a Chelsea supporter about what the Blues need.
The pundit made it clear that Chelsea should've gone for De Gea, claiming that he was readily available and he's performing brilliantly right now.
"I mean, no, not the Peter Cech era, no, no, no. We need like, we need like a type of like," The caller was saying.
"David De Gea, David De Gea, David De Gea was around. He’s doing so well at Fiorentina right now," Savage interrupted.
David De Gea stats this season
David De Gea was criticised towards the end of his time at Manchester United, but he seems to have rediscovered his best form since leaving Old Trafford.
Indeed, Savage says that De Gea has been fantastic this season, and the numbers back that up, especially when compared to Robert Sanchez.
David De Gea this season | Robert Sanchez this season | |
Games | 8 | 10 |
Goals conceded | 6 | 12 |
Clean sheets | 4 | 2 |
Goals conceded per game | 0.75 | 1.2 |
De Gea has been utterly brilliant for Fiorentina this season, and perhaps he would've been a good signing for Chelsea.
The Spaniard was a free agent for over a year after leaving United, despite the fact Newcastle were interested in De Gea, so Chelsea did have ample opportunity to get this deal done.
The Blues have a number of goalkeepers on their books, but none are quite at that top-level, and perhaps this is something the west London club should explore once the January transfer window opens.
A new goalkeeper could be just what Chelsea need in order to propel themselves to that next level.
