'He's going to go': Dimitar Berbatov thinks Ruben Amorim will sign 'incredible' player for Man Utd now
Today at 05:45 AM
Ruben Amorim is the new Manchester United manager, and he starts his new role at Old Trafford next week.
The Portuguese boss has a huge job on his hands in Manchester, and if he's going to turn the tide for the Red Devils, he may need backing in the transfer market.
Erik ten Hag was backed massively in the transfer window as he signed a number of his former Ajax favourites, and there have been suggestions that Amorim could do the same at Old Trafford.
Indeed, a number of Sporting players have been linked with a move to Manchester United, and speaking on The Lineup, Dimitar Berbatov has backed the Red Devils to complete the signing of Viktor Gyokeres.
Dimitar Berbatov predicts Gyokeres to Manchester United
Berbatov was speaking about Arsenal's striking issues when he discussed Gyokeres' future.
Gyokeres has been linked with a move to Arsenal, but Berbatov says that he thinks he will be headed to Manchester United instead.
"Maybe he was saying we don't need a striker because we have good players in the team, maybe Arteta is really hung up on that false nine stuff, maybe he likes this style. At the same time, I say who is there to buy for Arsenal?" Berbatov asked.
"There's that Gyokeres guy, as well," The co-host said.
"From Sporting? He's going to go to Manchester United," Berbatov said.
"He will go with Amorim," Jim White added.
"Probably," Berbatov said.
Who else could Ruben Amorim sign?
Amorim has a serious job on his hands at United, and he may need some signings to take United to that next level.
Owen Hargreaves says that United need a centre-back and a striker, while numerous Sporting players have been linked with a move to Manchester.
Marcus Edwards is one Sporting star who has been linked with United, as have four of his teammates.
Sporting players linked with Manchester United | Position |
Viktor Gyokeres | Striker |
Marcus Edwards | Winger |
Goncalo Inacio | Defender |
Morten Hjulmand | Midfielder |
Geovany Quenda | Winger |
Of course, as the Ten Hag era showed, just signing players from your manager's former club isn't always the best idea, but given how good Sporting have been under Amorim, it may be worth a go.
Gyokeres is obviously the jewel in the crown, the Swedish striker has been described as 'incredible' – via Goal, as of late, and he already has experience in English football with Coventry City.
We're not far away from the January transfer window now, and it will be interesting to see what Amorim tries to do in his first window as the new United boss.
