After essentially missing the whole of last season, Jurrien Timber properly announced himself as an Arsenal player away to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Timber started as left-back once again, as he has for Arsenal's last three games, and the Dutchman was incredibly commanding up against the likes of Brennan Johnson.

Timber was able to defend well in Arsenal's block, as well as foraging forward – managing his emotion well in key moments too.

Mikel Arteta was distraught to lose his new signing at the start of last season, and it's now very clear why.

Not only is Timber a brilliant defender, he's also incredibly versatile across the back line, and a big upgrade on Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Jurrien Timber simply amazed by Arsenal teammate Gabriel Magalhaes

Speaking via the Premier League on Instagram shortly after the game, Timber took time to praise Gabriel Magalhaes whilst receiving applause himself.

Timber was playing alongside the imperious Brazilian in Arteta's back four, and had an incredibly strong presence to fall back on.

And aside from Gabriel's goal, Timber also praised his teammates' all round game, saying he was defending incredibly well too.

Timber shared: "Oh, what a guy! He's unbelievable. He's so good at defending, but in attacking with the set pieces, he's even more outstanding."

Of course, it is brilliant to see just how much the Dutchman is enjoying his football this season after missing his debut campaign so cruelly.

Ethan Nwaneri ready to start for Arsenal after North London derby cameo

Among the success stories from Sunday's North London derby, Ethan Nwaneri also deserves a ton of credit.

The 17-year-old entered the game at a difficult point, when Arsenal were defending resolutely to protect their lead.

Gabriel Jesus gave Nwaneri some vital instructions, and the youngster then played with maturity and showed his aura on the ball.

Perhaps Thursday's trip to Italy to face Atalanta may still be deemed too soon for Nwaneri to start, Arteta is trying to protect the young midfielder all he can.

But it's clear that Nwaneri is now at the level to play, it's just a question of when the Arsenal manager deems it best to fully integrate the Hale-Ender into his first team.
