Tottenham Hotspur have a big opportunity to get their hands on a major piece of silverware this season with the Europa League.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side have certainly had their ups and downs this season with the recent defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion raising a lot of questions.

However, in the Europa League, Tottenham have gotten off to the perfect start with two wins from a possible two.

And the latest instalment of their Europa League journey is coming up on Thursday when AZ Alkmaar make the trip to north London.

With the ongoing trophy drought at Tottenham, Postecoglou’s side could finally bring that drought to an end by adding their third title to their name having previously won the UEFA Cup twice.

Winning the Europa League could go a long way to helping the Lilywhites keep hold of some of their top players like Cristian Romero.

Where Cristian Romero could play after Tottenham

Since landing in north London, Romero has been able to succeed massively with his country having lifted two Copa Americas and a World Cup.

However, the same cannot be said in his club career with Spurs having failed to get over the line when it comes to landing a trophy.

Real Madrid are believed to hold a serious interest in Romero ahead of the summer transfer window as they look to bolster their side.

Speaking to Argentine media, Romero’s Mother has admitted she expects him to play for Club Atletico Belgrano at some stage in his career.

"His lifelong dream is to succeed at Belgrano, which is still his love today. It is a pending question, and he will surely do it," she said.

Tottenham want to extend Cristian Romero’s contract

TBR Football understands Tottenham are set to open talks with Cristian Romero over signing a new contract ahead of Christmas.

However, the success of Postecoglou’s second season at the helm of Tottenham could go a long way towards Romero’s decision making on his future.

Fortunately for Tottenham, Romero still has three years on his deal in north London and remains one of the leaders as the vice captain.

But a new contract could well just secure a huge transfer fee for the Argentina international if he is to leave for a club like Real Madrid.
