Marcus Rashford dropped a bombshell on Tuesday as he admitted he's ready to leave Manchester United.

Rashford is ready for the next step in his career, and there's a huge element of sadness around this situation.

Rashford isn't happy at United, and he's ready to move on to another club to try to rebuild and rediscover his best form.

This comes after 18 months' worth of poor performances from the Englishman.

Just a few years ago, Rashford appeared to be on the path to superstardom, and according to Dean Jones, speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Manchester United believed that Rashford was eventually going to be a £100m player at one point.

Manchester United thought Marcus Rashford would be a £100m player

Jones shared what he knows about Rashford after his bombshell comments.

The journalist says that United once thought that Rashford would be a £100m player, but now, he's unlikely to fetch that much at all.

"We’re not talking about that. But at the end of the day, this is a player that is contracted to Man United until 2028. He’s a player that United believed was going to be a 100 million pound footballer.

"Because when you’re weighing up your club assets, like you have values on players that are kind of balanced against the books of everything else. And obviously he earns like 300-odd grand a week. These things aren’t lost on United.

"Obviously, they’d love that wage gone from the wage bill because it will give them a chance to do something new with this attack."

How much is Marcus Rashford worth?

It's hard to judge how much any player is worth these days, but it's fair to say that Rashford is no longer a £100m player.

Indeed, after scoring just 11 league goals in a season and a half, Rashford's value will have plummeted.

Factor in the fact Rashford is no longer a young player and United would be happy to be rid of his wages, and his transfer value is probably much lower these days.

This situation isn't all that different to Jadon Sancho's situation over the summer.

Indeed, Sancho and Rashford do match up quite well statistically and in terms of their contract status, as well as the fact they both publicly wanted to leave.

That £25m fee that Chelsea are set to play this summer would appear to be a decent benchmark.

Rashford has made it clear that he's ready to leave United, but one thing is for sure, the Red Devils won't get £100m for this transfer in this day and age.
