Liverpool are enjoying a special season – but there are several looming concerns for supporters.

Arne Slot has been better than anybody could have expected, overseeing 16 wins and a draw from 18 outings across all competitions so far this term – putting Liverpool top of both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

However, trouble could be on the horizon at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold all leaving as free agents in July as things stand.

Liverpool are yet to agree new contracts with any of the trio, let alone all of them, with Real Madrid particularly keen to sign Alexander-Arnold in 2025.

In a fresh development, Mohamed Salah revealed after speaking to reporters on Sunday that Liverpool have not actually offered him a new deal, when quizzed on why he is yet to sign a renewal.

In light of that revelation, Don Hutchinson – who made 60 appearances for Liverpool – has reacted.

Don Hutchinson takes aim at Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and Richard Hughes after Mohamed Salah comments

To put it simply, the 53-year-old is flabbergasted by the Egyptian’s admission.

Writing on X (previously known as Twitter), Hutchinson stated: “How on Earth have FSG, Richard Hughes (Director of Football) + Co. not even offered M Salah a new contract. That's incredible if that's the case.”

It is quite bizarre to hear that Liverpool are yet to even make Salah an opening offer, especially when you consider just how incredibly he is performing this season.

The Liverpool No.11 remarkably boasts 12 goals and ten assists in just 18 appearances across all competitions, resembling a Benjamin Button type figure as he plays with the intensity of a 21-year-old, despite being 32 years of age.

The problem for Liverpool regarding Mohamed Salah

With 22 goal involvements in 18 games, adoration from Liverpool fans and a love of his own for the Reds, many are wondering why FSG are yet to make the Egypt international an offer.

Incidentally, sources have informed TBR Football that the length of contract is the sticking point.

Salah is believed to want a three-year contract, or at least a two-year deal with the option of an additional 12 months based on performances.

However, Liverpool are concerned that the man from Nagrig could begin to gradually fall off after his 33rd birthday in June, so FSG are wary of extending his £350,000-a-week contract to a point where they will be paying a struggling, ageing player almost £2m per month.

That makes sense, although when you look at how well Salah is performing this season, and how fit he keeps himself, it feels like he could continue to deliver well into his thirties, so a two-year deal with the option of a third year is surely worth doing for FSG.

If FSG fail to reach an agreement, they risk immense backlash from the Liverpool fanbase, who are watching a club legend shine on a regular basis live in the flesh.
