"I am in talks with Liverpool" – Everton past won't prevent move to Reds this summer

Arne Slot has not yet completed his backroom team at Anfield, as the Dutch coach looks to get off to a good start as Liverpool manager.

He’s aware there’s going to be huge pressure on him as the successor to Jurgen Klopp and he’ll need all the help he can get. Bringing in players who know Liverpool is one possibility, and another is taking in English football experience generally, even if a lot of that experience was picked up at Everton.

John Heitinga has been targeted by the Reds and has now admitted that he’s holding talks with the club. Heitinga, who has left a coaching role at West Ham United this year, played for Everton from 2009 to 2014.

De Telegraaf quote him as saying: “I’m in talks with Liverpool,” and he then stated he’s leaving it all down to his representative. "All I can say now is that I have been approached and that my agent Rob Jansen and I are in discussions."

The former Everton player of the year would become part of Slot’s coaching team, and sooner or later would have the opportunity to face his old club.

For his career it’s a great opportunity as he looks to build up a coaching CV which he’ll hope will get him a senior job in the future.

Maybe even at Everton…
