Alan Shearer says he is ‘not convinced’ Chelsea will maintain their title charge and has revealed who he is backing to win the Premier League.

A number of pundits tipped Chelsea to struggle this season after the arrival of new manager Enzo Maresca and another chaotic transfer window.

Chelsea finished sixth last term under Mauricio Pochettino and were widely expected for a similar finish in Maresca’s first campaign in the Premier League.

The Blues were outclassed by defending champions Manchester City on the opening weekend but have lost just once since then to emerge as genuine title contenders.

Chelsea have amassed 34 points from 16 games and their tally of 37 goals is comfortably the most in the Premier League.

While Shearer has been impressed by Chelsea’s sensational form, he cannot see the Blues maintaining their title challenge throughout the season.

Chelsea are currently second, two points behind Liverpool and two ahead of Arsenal, and Shearer also revealed his pick for the Premier League title.

‘Arne Slot has done an amazing job at Liverpool,’ he said on a live episode of The Rest is Football podcast. ‘They’ve been brilliant and they've got so many options in so many positions.

‘The big surprise obviously is Man City and what's happened to them. I can't see Liverpool going away now.

‘I'm not convinced Chelsea will be where they are at this moment at the end of the season, I could be wrong.
