Liverpool picked up a point on the road at the Emirates Stadium as they drew 2-2 with Premier League title rivals Arsenal.

Arne Slot’s men went behind twice in the clash but showed resilience to bounce back through Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah – who netted the leveller in the 81st minute.

The point keeps Liverpool in second place, just a point adrift of the league leaders Manchester City, who defeated Southampton 1-0 on Saturday.

After reflecting on the North London encounter, van Dijk was asked about his contract situation, which has been a hot topic among Liverpool supporters.

His current deal expires at the end of the season, putting his future at the club into major doubt.

Virgil van Dijk remains coy on Liverpool future

Speaking post-match, a Sky Sports reporter asked van Dijk about his contract situation.

“I’m very calm,” the Liverpool captain said.

“I’ve said that many times before. Let’s see what happens at the end of the season. I’m enjoying my football, feeling very good physically and mentally.

“I feel in a good place. Nothing more can be said. I want to keep enjoying the game, because it’s a beautiful game we play.”

Liverpool have already identified van Dijk replacement

Liverpool are reportedly already making contingency plans if van Dijk leaves Anfield at the end of the season.

TBR Football reported earlier this month that Liverpool are interested in signing Loic Bade from Sevilla, who would come in as van Dijk’s successor.

Sevilla would sanction his sale if an offer of around £25m arrives, so it’s certainly a feasible deal to do for The Reds.

A telling year lies ahead on Merseyside, with Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah also out of contract next summer.
