"I had a FaceTime call" – Manger on trying to convince Newcastle United star to join him

Istanbul Başakşehir manager Çağdaş Atan has revealed he tried to sign Newcastle United Kieran Trippier defender for the Super Lig club during the last transfer window.
The former England international was linked with a move away from St James' Park at the start of the season after losing his place in Eddie Howe's starting eleven.
In an interview with Beinsports, Atan revealed he had a FaceTime call with Trippier with regards to convincing him over a move to Istanbul.
Atan said he wanted to strengthen at fullback ahead of the new season and that the Newcastle United player was one of the options they were looking at.
"I had a FaceTime call with Trippier in person. We tried to bring Alex Telles in a lot; We met with Reguilon. We chased the transfer of Onur Bulut until the last moment. We could have been in a much more comfortable position if those transfers had happened. We have to get a right-back and a left-back…" said the İstanbul Başakşehir coach.
Trippier has found himself out of the Newcastle United team, with Howe preferring Livramento as his right back for most of the season. This led to speculation towards the end of the summer transfer window that Trippier could exit the Magpies, with reports Besiktas were showing interest.
In recent weeks the veteran defender has been getting more starts, but it seems Livramento may now be first choice right back for the Premier League side.
