Tottenham Hotspur made it through to the fourth round of the League Cup on Wednesday night as they grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat.

Spurs were seemingly down and out as the Sky Blues led 1-0 going into the latter stages of the game.

However, Tottenham then found the equaliser in the 88th minute, Dejan Kulusevski setting up Djed Spence to slide home.

Then, as the game went into added time and with penalties looming, Rodrigo Bentancur sliced the Coventry defence open with a ball for Brennan Johnson.

The £70,000-a-week forward chipped the ball over the incoming Ben Wilson to put Tottenham through at the expense of the hosts.

Ange Postecoglou, speaking to Sky Sports after the game, was eager to sing his match-winner’s praises.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou says Brennan Johnson ‘works so hard on his game every day’

When asked what Johnson’s winner will do for his confidence, Postecoglou replied, as transcribed by BBC Sport: “Hopefully a great deal.

“He’s a fantastic young man, a great player. I have a lot of time for him because he works so hard on his game every day.

“Like all attacking players there is always a spotlight on them if things aren’t working out.

“It’s part of his journey and if he can come out of the other side of this and show who he can be he will benefit greatly from it.

“He took his goal well tonight and he made a good impact.”

More to come from Johnson

Johnson hasn’t had the easiest of times at Tottenham and seemingly deactivated his Instagram account after Sunday’s loss to Arsenal.

He answered his critics in the best possible way with a goal that earned him plaudits aplenty.

For instance, Tottenham cult hero Aaron Lennon has hailed Johnson’s “lovely goal” on social media.

Hopefully this will provide Johnson with the confidence boost that enables him to kick on.

There’s no doubt that there’s much more to come from Johnson over the course of the season and beyond.
