Marco Asensio has enjoyed a good start at Aston Villa since joining them on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the winter market.
The attacking midfielder has scored seven goals from eight games for Aston Villa.
On Wednesday, Asensio scored two goals in Aston Villa’s 3-0 win over Club Brugge in the Champions League. The 6-1 aggregate victory has seen the Villans make it to the quarterfinals, where they will face PSG.
After yesterday’s match at Villa Park, the 29-year-old had a chat with France’s Canal+ and RMC Sport have relayed his comments.
The Ligue 1 club secured a berth in the last eight by overcoming Liverpool via a penalty shootout at Anfield on Tuesday. It was no surprise to see the French media ask the Aston Villa man if he watched PSG clash against the Reds.
“Yes, I watched, and the truth is I’m very happy for my friends at Paris Saint-Germain who won and were able to qualify. It was very difficult, and I’m very happy for them,” he said.
The Spain international will come up against his parent club when Aston Villa face PSG in in April. Canal+ asked his thoughts about facing the Paris club.
“Yes, it will be a very special match, very beautiful. I have time to think about it. But now we have to recover, train, and continue to improve our game. And we’ll think about PSG afterwards,” Asensio explained.
Prior to next month’s clash against PSG, Aston Villa will face Preston North End in the FA Cup quarterfinals, plus Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest in the league.
Unai Emery’s side are eighth in the table, four points behind fourth placed Chelsea.
