Dominic Solanke scored his first brace for Tottenham during Sunday’s 4-1 win against Aston Villa.

The £65m summer signing from Bournemouth netted his third and fourth Premier League goals of the season as Spurs fought back from 1-0 down against the Villans, with those four strikes coming in just eight appearances.

It was a result which moved Tottenham up to seventh in the Premier League table.

The England international’s first goal was a thing of beauty, as he deftly dinked the ball over the onrushing Emiliano Martinez after some lovely buildup play from Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski.

However – when analysing the game on Sky Sports – Jamie Redknapp opted to focus on something he spotted Dominic Solanke do before netting his second goal, a far less spectacular tap in.

Jamie Redknapp hails Dominic Solanke for shrugging off Youri Tielemans

As the Tottenham No.19 surged into the box to support the attack, Youri Tielemans could be seen attempting to drag him back by the neck.

Nowadays, many players would throw themselves to the ground trying to get the referee’s attention after such an act, but not Solanke, who was determined to get on the end of Richarlison’s cross by any means.

After watching the strike, Redknapp said on Sky Sports: “I love this. Watch him. Tielemans tries to grab him, he is pulling him back and he still gets into the box. Shows that desire.”

Solanke – who equalled a Rafael van der Vaart record on Sunday – was certainly in the mood against Aston Villa, netting both of his goals within just four minutes, while his overall play was once again superb before he managed to get himself on the scoresheet.

Tottenham have themselves a talisman

Spurs looked pretty toothless in attack after Harry Kane departed for Bayern Munich in August 2023.

None of Richarlison, Johnson, Heung-min Son or Timo Werner were able to step up and become the physically dominant No.9 Tottenham needed to lead the line, mainly due to their physical profiles.

However, Ange Postecoglou now has himself a proper striker who, even on a day where Tottenham weren’t at their best, was able to step up and take the game away from a top side in Aston Villa, thanks to his efficiency in front of goal.

It was a ruthless display from Solanke, who completely took the game away from the Villans within four minutes, before Unai Emery could even react tactically to going 2-1 down.

Hopefully, the 27-year-old stays fit, as Spurs have every chance of winning either the FA Cup or UEFA Europa League with the Londoner leading the line.
