Liverpool really can't complain about how their season has gone so far.

The Reds are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League as things stand, and they're also flying in Europe.

Arne Slot has had a very soft landing at Anfield and a great start to life on Merseyside. However, he has had one ongoing issue within his squad.

Indeed, Harvey Elliott has been sidelined with injury for the past few weeks and many are eager to see Elliott back in this team.

Elliott was tipped to shine under Slot this season, but, due to injury, he's been unable to get going as of yet.

However, Elliott could be back in action soon, as according to Paul Gorst, speaking on the Blood Red Podcast, Elliott is back in the gym and has even been targeting the Chelsea game to return to action.

Paul Gorst shares Harvey Elliott fitness update

Gorst shared what he's been told about Elliott and his fitness.

The journalist says that he was told last week that Elliott could soon be back in training.

However, as things stand, all he knows is that the midfielder has been in the gym and he's aiming to hopefully be fit for the game against Chelsea.

"I spoke to someone at the top of last week and they said it was a possibility (that Elliott would be back training). I'm not sure if Liverpool are back in today, but he's in the gym at the last check," Gorst said.

"That was towards the middle of last week, he was targeting a comeback for the Chelsea game we believe, but there was some suggestion that was optimistic. We will see this week, hopefully he is closer to a comeback than not."

What Arne Slot has said about Harvey Elliott

Elliott has missed six weeks of action at this point, and Arne Slot was gutted to lose the midfielder so early into the season.

"Harvey is of course a big disappointment for him but not only for him, also for us," said Slot.

"Okay, he didn't play that much in the first three games but he played a lot in pre-season and he showed himself really well.

"So, of course, if he had stayed fit he would have had a lot of playing time in the upcoming fixtures. But now he isn't [fit] and that also gives the chance to someone else.

"So it is, first and foremost, a blow for himself, and then also for us because I think availability is important in the stage of the season when we play seven games in 22 days, I think.

"It's a blow for the both of us but he will work as hard as always to come back in the best possible way. He didn't stay fit unfortunately so he is out for a longer time."

Elliott has been tipped to be a star under Slot as the Dutchman utilises that number 10 position in a way Jurgen Klopp never did.

Unfortunately, Elliott has now fallen behind in terms of getting a chance to impress his new manager, but it's still very early days for Liverpool and their new gaffer.

At the age of just 21, Elliott has time on his side to become a star at Liverpool under Slot, and work towards this goal starts now as he prepares to return to first-team training.
