Liverpool have had their ups and downs over the years, but one thing the Reds have always had is a history of brilliant strikers.

From Robbie Fowler to Luis Suarez all the way to Diogo Jota. Liverpool's number nines have always been some of their best players.

Of course, one of the greatest strikers Liverpool have ever had is the great Ian Rush.

Indeed, no player has ever scored more goals for Liverpool than Rush.

Mohamed Salah wants to break Rush's record, but he's some way off yet.

Speaking to Mail Sport on TikTok, Rush has been comparing some of the greatest strikers in Premier League history, and he's made quite the claim about one former Liverpool star.

Ian Rush hails Fernando Torres

Rush was comparing some of the best strikers in Premier League history and he had some serious praise for Fernando Torres.

The Spaniard was absolutely electric during his time at Liverpool after arriving from Atletico Madrid for £24m.

David Villa recently praised Torres, claiming that he was better than Luis Suarez, and now, Rush has picked Torres over Michael Owen.

Torres and Owen are certainly two all-time greats, but Rush believes Torres was the better player.

Fernando Torres compared to Michael Owen

Rush says that Torres was better than Owen, and this is a very juicy argument to say the least.

Owen and Torres are two legends of the game, and when you compare their career stats, it makes for interesting reading.

Owen had a much better goalscoring rate than Torres, that's for sure, but Torres may leave behind a slightly better legacy.

Indeed, as a World Cup winner and a two-time European champion, Torres does have the greater CV, as well as a Champions League win.

That said, Owen is a Ballon d'Or winner, but he won relatively few major trophies.

In terms of their legacy for Liverpool, Owen was perhaps the better player for the Reds, and he won more trophies, but his controversial move to Manchester United in 2009 tarnished that legacy somewhat.

As Rush says, these are two fantastic players, and football fans would probably be split when picking which player they prefer.
