Ian Wright shocked at 'unbelievable' Jefferson Lerma in Crystal Palace v Fulham

03/29/2025 10:48 AM
Jefferson Lerma left Ian Wright astonished following a first-half incident during Crystal Palace’s FA Cup victory over Fulham on Saturday.
Oliver Glasner’s side were eventual 3-0 winners at Craven Cottage on 29 March, with Eberechi Eze continuing his England heroics to open the scoring for the Eagles after 34 minutes.
Despite the Cottagers largely dominating for much of the first half, Ismaila Sarr fired past Bernd Leno just four minutes to double the visitors’ lead, with Eddie Nketiah finally sealing the win with 15 minutes remaining.
The Eagles secured their spot in the semi-finals, rather easily in the end, but it could have been even worse for Marco Silva‘s side, with Wright in disbelief as Lerma rocketed an effort off the crossbar.
Crystal Palace nearly tops off FA Cup victory against Fulham
Speaking live on ITV1 [29 March, 1:17pm], the former Arsenal striker said: “I was watching him during the warm-up and he missed three on the spin at such close proximity.
“But this is really unbelievable technique, where it’s coming out of the sky, watching it all the way, and it didn’t just dip enough,” as Lerma was denied his first goal of the 2024/25 campaign.

Oliver Glasner one step closer to FA Cup trophy lift at Wembley Stadium
Football Insider verdict
Glasner was under immense pressure at Palace at the beginning of the season, with supporters extremely concerned about the potential of being relegated to the Championship.
Now, he has helped lead the Eagles to just their third FA Cup semi-final this century, setting up a semi-final clash at Wembley Stadium in what could be a fantastic end to the campaign.
The London club are also just five points off the top half of the Premier League table, and if they can win as many of their games while other results go their way, European qualification is still possible.
With Man United-linked star striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, Eze, Adam Wharton, Sarr and Marc Guehi, the sky is the limit for this team, and Fulham found that out the hard way at Craven Cottage.
Having now won 10 of their last 12 matches, momentum is certainly on Crystal Palace’s side going into the end-of-season run-in, which could be vital if they are to lift the FA Cup trophy this term.
